Find answers to common questions about Schegen visa applications and travel requirements.
The Schengen Area is a zone of 29 European countries that have officially abolished passport and all other types of border control at their mutual borders. It operates as a single jurisdiction for international travel purposes. Schengen countries are, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland
This depends on your nationality. Many countries have visa-free arrangements with the Schengen Area, allowing their citizens to visit for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Nationals of other countries are required to apply for a visa in advance.
You can submit your application up to six months before your intended date of travel. It is highly recommended to apply well in advance to account for any processing delays.
A single-entry visa allows you to enter the Schengen Area only once during its validity period. A multiple-entry visa permits you to enter and exit the Schengen Area multiple times, as long as you do not exceed the authorized stay period.
ETIAS, the European Travel Information and Authorization System, is a new pre-travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers. It is not a visa, but rather a travel authorization similar to the ESTA in the USA. Starting in late 2025, if you are from a country that currently enjoys visa-free travel to the Schengen Area, you will need to obtain an approved ETIAS before your trip. This system is being introduced to enhance security and border management.
